About once a month I will browse the NovaWorld web site to keep up on some people and the forums. Normally it is the same thing; the latest news announcement is 2 years old, the forum topics are "Nova is dead" or "Will AF ever be released". Today it was different. Today the NovaWorld website is down.

The explanation is an announcement on Novalogic's website which states: "In preparation for upcoming releases of new products and services, Novalogic is restructuring various web servers so as to provide a more cohesive environment. During the course of this restructuring, some redundancy will be removed, and some favorite NovaWorld legacy features will be revived. During this process we foresee no significant service outages. The changes will be ongoing, and should enhance organization and game-play. Please keep watching this Announcement section for updates and information."

Upcoming releases of new products and services? Does this mean Novalogic is finally going to be releasing a new game? Four or five months back Novalogic moved services to a new datacenter in preparation of increased bandwidth needs. This move took about a month to complete and interrupted all online services and game play. Additionally there have been many posts on the NovaWorld forums of people finding trademark extensions filed by Novalogic. This all sounds very promising.

In the past Novalogic has always released new titles in the summer time. The time is past due in my opinion for a new title from Nova. It has been 6 or 7 years since something new and fresh has been released. The last title release, DFX2, was a remake of a remake. I hope Novalogic did not lose to many customers/players over this long stretch of time with no new content. I am not making any predictions this time either. However, I cannot wait to see what this summer will bring.

Call of Duty: Black Ops New Server

Thanks goes to Beast for picking up an unranked Black Ops server. This server will mainly run the "wager" type matches. The server is called A DRAGON ELITE SERVER in red letters. The server is hosted in Chicago and you can find it in the Unranked server list in the browser.

I pre-ordered an 18 slot ranked server today. Basically the ranked servers are more 'official' so you can't change as much. You can choose a game mode, map, kick players, etc. When players play in a ranked server, they can earn XP, unlock challenges, basically anything that you would expect to be normal.

In an unranked server, you can tweak whatever you want, think modded lobbies, however, those are just for fun, and don't count towards player stats or XP at all. It has all the features of a ranked server, plus you can alter advanced settings, like player health, toggle HUD and other settings, load mods and stuff.

If things go well and we decide a modded server would better suit our needs then we will look into changing over.
